Social Prescribing at Village – What is Social Prescribing?

At the Village we are passionate about supporting our patients in living healthy and happy lives and we therefore promote social prescribing as a way of linking our patients with other services that may help them.

What is Social Prescribing?

A growing movement

Social prescribing is a growing movement that connects people with a range of non clinical programmes, services and events in their local community – like walking groups, mental health counseling, debt management advice, employability skills, volunteering, family fitness, healthy cooking programmes, mindfulness sessions, and the ‘green prescription’ of gardening and food growing.

A service that goes beyond the GPs prescription pad

Designed to support people with a wide range of social, emotional or practical needs.

It seeks to address people’s needs across a number of areas such as physical activity, diet and nutrition, mental health and social support. It is often referred to as a ‘more than medicine’ approach to health and wellbeing based on the fact that the majority of long term conditions can be prevented by lifestyle change alone.

Some of the services you can access…

  1. We are a RCGP Parkrun approved practice from 05/07/2018 and you may be advised to attend the local Park run in Finsbury Park. It is a 5k run which can be walked or run at any level and you may even see members of the Practice staff there!
  2. Village Practice Women’s Only Walking Group run by staff at the Village voluntarily! Join us for a leisurely chat and walk and make new friends. Thursdays at 12.00!
  3. An appointment with one of the Age UK Care Navigators who can support you from the beginning to the end of your problem and ensure you get the best care and support.
