Opening Hours

We understand it is difficult to make an appointment to see a doctor during normal office hours. We have reserved appointments especially for commuters: every morning betwen 8:30 and 9am, Mondays and Wednesdays between 6 and 7:30pm and Saturdays 9-11:30am; each GP does one evening clinic a week and Saturdays on a 1 in 5 rota. The nurse also has commuter clinics. Please ask for details.

How to use the appointment system

 

Doctors and nurses are available for a set number of sessions per week so appointments are precious! We have made many changes to our appointment system so that you make the best use of them:

 

·      we have a telephone triage system with a duty doctor at the start of morning and evening surgery for urgent matters. We can give advice over phone, issue prescriptions without an appointment, or give you a time to come to see us for an urgent appointment so that you don't have a long wait. Please note you may not be able speak to or see your usual doctor this way.

 

·      we have commuter clinics on Monday and Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings for people who work during the day and would not be able to come during normal opening hours.

·      we reserve some appointments to be booked two weeks ahead, one week ahead and two days ahead to suit people with different needs and lifestyles.

 

Please note many of our doctors have outside commitments which may be personal/family or activities that benefit the wider community. This means the doctor of your choice may not be available every day. Please click on Doctors' Rota tab to see which days the GPs are available.

Appointments

We offer scheduled appointments with the doctors and the nurse. We make every effort to offer appointments that are convenient to our patients and with whom they would like to see.

Making an Appointment

You can make an appointment in person at reception or by telephoning the surgery. It is generally easier to telephone after 10 am to get a routine appointment.

Appointments run from 8.30 – 11.30 am and from 2.30 – 7.10 pm. The surgery is closed on Thursday afternoons.

Please ask to see the same doctor if possible each time and particularly to see the same doctor for the same problem. You can however choose to see another doctor if you wish.

If you cannot attend at the arranged time, please contact the reception so that they can give the appointment to someone else and arrange a new one for you. Any non-attendance is recorded in your records.

Patients who repeatedly fail to attend booked appointments will be removed from the practice list.

If you are 16 or younger, you do not have to be seen with a parent or guardian, but it would be a good idea to tell them that you are coming for an appointment.

Urgent Appointments

If you have an urgent medical problem, please ring the practice either between 8.15 and 9am or 2.45 and 3.30pm and the receptionist will take your details. For minor illnesses such as coughs, colds, cystitis, the receptionist will help you get a consultation with a pharmacist or optometrist quickly. The duty doctor will call you back that morning or afternoon and will decide on the best course of action and whether or not you need to attend the practice.

We do not provide a “walk-in” service. Please do not come to the surgery without an appointment. You may not be seen. 

The doctor or nurse will not be able to discuss any other issues such as routine problems or ongoing illnesses. For sick notes please call and leave the details with the receptionist. These may be done without an appointment if the doctor is aware of the illness.

Home Visits

If you are housebound or too ill to get to the practice you can ask to be seen at home. Please do not ask for a home visit unless you really can’t get to the surgery; doctors can see several patients in the time it takes to get to a patient’s home. In addition, when making home visits, the doctor will not have all the facilities or equipment available. Urgent visits will be done as soon as possible but you usual doctor may not be available.

Requests for visits should be made before 11am. Non-urgent visits can be arranged with your doctor with a few days' notice.

Telephone Advice

If you wish to talk to the doctor or nurse for telephone advice please phone the surgery and leave your contact details and we will pass them to the doctor or nurse. If it is non-urgent your call will be returned in the next few days.

You may be able to get some results over the phone, which you should call for between 12 midday and 12.30pm, though sometimes you will be asked to make an appointment with the doctor.

Doctors' availabilities

Please note: doctors have personal and professional commitments elsewhere during the week so will not be available everyday in the practice. Please bear this in mind when you wish to make an appointment.
