Cancer Screening

All eligible patients on GP registers are sent invitations for the three main national screening programmes for cancer. It is therefore very  important that we have the most up to date information to contact you for these invitations.

Screening tests detect warning signs which may lead to full blown cancer if not treated early. However, not all warning signs are due to cancer. This is why it is very important to go for further tests to make sure.

There are no national screening programmes for prostate or ovarian cancers as yet because accurate tests are still being developed. Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) test is not an accurate marker for prostate cancer as men with cancer can have normal PSA.
